Haglund’s deformity is a bony enlargement on the back of the heel near the Achilles. It is caused by rigid backs of shoes rubbing up against and irritating the area of contact causing redness and swelling (inflammation).
Treatment for Haglunds Deformity
- Custom Orthotics to control the motion in the foot
- Heel lifts to decrease the pressure on the heel
- Heel pads to cushion the heel and reduce irritation
- Soft Backed or Backless Shoes to reduce contact irritation
- Ultrasound to help to reduce inflammation
- Exercises to stretch the Achilles
- Avoid running on hard surfaces and running uphill
- Immobilization for more severe cases
