Running Assessment & Retraining

Do you love running but find you can’t reach your full potential due to ongoing lower limb pain? Maybe you are thinking of taking up running as an activity but you’re worried about becoming injured?

Our Sports Podiatrist Dr Ella Wright can help! She is the “go-to” running Podiatrist having completed additional professional training in running rehabilitation and injury prevention. She has worked with athletes of all ages and levels extensively and has developed a comprehensive running retraining program.

Dr Ella uses running retraining as a mechanism to help treat and prevent common lower limb running-related injuries. It involves using a range of assessments and tools to determine if there is tissue overload and addressing this accordingly so that the patient can reach their running-related goals.

Common running-related injuries she sees include (but are not limited to): Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome, Achilles Tendinopathy, Patellofemoral pain, Stress Fractures and Plantar Fasciopathy

So what does a running retraining session with Dr Ella involve?

Dr Ella will have a thorough discussion with you about your current running regime, injury history and future goals. She will then conduct a range of assessments, which include looking at your muscle strength, endurance and power, as well as assessing your joint range of motion. These tests will help to identify any factors that may be contributing to ongoing pain whilst running. Dr Ella will also perform a detailed video gait analysis of your running to identify if your running mechanics may be contributing to overload and pain. At the end of your consult, Dr Ella will run through any strength exercises or tools that will benefit you so you can incorporate these into your weekly training sessions. She is thorough and will tailor a program specifically to your needs! Dr Ella will always follow up with review consults overtime to ensure that you are progressing in the right direction and meeting your goals.
