Shockwave therapy uses a handheld device to deliver focused acoustic pulses to a tendon or an area of soft tissue. Podiatrists use it for long-standing heel, tendon and shin problems, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, heel spurs and shin splints. Each session takes 10 to 20 minutes with no anaesthetic, and you get on with your day afterwards. This is a prepaid session with your podiatrist, who will confirm at your appointment that shockwave suits your condition and talk you through how many sessions to plan for.
